Azerbaijan sees grain production growth by 3-4% in 2013-16
During the years of 2013-16, the Government of Azerbaijan estimates the annual growth of grain production will total 3-4%, so that in 2016 the country will form the harvest of 3.15 million tonnes, against 2.765 million tonnes in 2012.
According to the document, in 2013 Azerbaijan plans to produce 2.846 million tonnes of grains, in 2014 - 2.943 million tonnes, in 2015 - 3.03 million tonnes, and in 2016 - 3.15 million tonnes.
Previously, Ismet Abbasov, Minister of Agriculture, that Azerbaijan will take measures to increase the average grain yield to 35 centners/hectare (c/ha), as opposed to the current level of 25 c/ha, which will cover the demand for grains in the country.
The planted areas under grains in Azerbaijan total over 900,000 hectares, the annual demand for grains - 3-3.5 million tonnes. The deficit is covered by grain purchasing from Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
