Market analysis

Buying interest was low as feed demand stayed flat while lysine costs stood at record-high levels. Even though supplies of lysine tightened in Europe, export orders did not increase as China products were not competitive in prices.

In Europe, spot prices of lysine rose to EUR1.98-2.02/kg, while quotes for 2012 Q1 deliveries were mainly in the range of EUR1.96-1.98/kg.

Market forecast

China's lysine prices will likely soften further with supplies poised to increase while demand remains weak amid high prices and slow feed consumption.
