Aquaculture experts say GM feed to be common in 5 years
Among 50 aquaculture experts in Alltech's recent meeting in Europe, 58 percent of the respondents believe that GM cereals and proteins will become commonly used in Europe in the next five years.
Another issue addressed in the Alltech meeting is the use of offshore facilities. 51 percent agreed that offshore open sea facilities will become a priority due to EU's maritime zoning policy.
65 percent of the aquaculture respondents think that 15 to 20 percent of fish meal will be standard in salmon starter diets soon. Half of the respondents agree that a combination of viral and bacterial diseases pose a threat to marine production.
