EPA awards pioneering probiotics research at EuroTier 2014

At the European Probiotic Association (EPA)'s Jules Tournut probiotics award ceremony, a pioneering study by the University of California, Davis, into the evolution of host specificity of a specific probiotic strain, received the coveted award.

Lallemand, together with Lesaffre Feed Additives, are the founding members of the EPA. Other current members of the EPA include Danisco, Kemin and Rubinum.

The study by the University examined the host-adapted gut symbiont, Lactobacillus reuteri, for both rodents and humans. The understanding of probiotics provided by the study will be instrumental to the research project as it moves towards the study of host specificity for swine, according to Dr. Steven Frese, post-doctoral researcher for the project.
