South Africa 2009-10 corn yield rises to 11.012 million tonnes
South Africa delivered 19,000 tonnes of corn to silos last week, from 26,000 tonnes the previous week, the South African Grain Information Service showed in its weekly harvest report this week.
The crop consists of 9,000 tonnes of white corn and 10,000 tonnes of yellow corn.
A total of 11.012 million tonnes have been harvested and delivered since the beginning of the season. Harvesting usually starts from about April to early August, with the key harvest months being June and July.
South Africa intends to plant 2.572 million hectares of corn in the new season, up 6 percent from the previous season’s 2.428 million hectares, the Crop Estimates Committee said.
