Brazil's October chicken exports up 21 percent

 

 

Brazil's chicken exports totaled 313,000 tonnes in October, up 21 percent compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters' Association, or Abef, on Monday (November 13, 2007).

 

From January to October, the volume of chicken exported was 2.7 million tonnes, up 22 percent compared to a year ago.

 

Chicken exports are expected to reach a record 3.1 million tonnes by the end of 2007, according to Abef.

 

The main destination for Brazilian chicken was the Middle East, which received 806,000 tonnes between January and October 2007, up 37 percent against a year ago.

 

Brazil exported 174,000 tonnes of chicken cutlets in October, up 19 percent on the same period in 2006.

 

In addition, Brazil shipped 1.5 million tonnes of chicken cutlets between January and October, up 13 percent compared to last year.

 

Whole chicken exports rose 7 percent to 103,000 tonnes in October compared to October 2006. Overall, 963,000 tonnes were exported in the first 10 months of 2007, up 29 percent versus the same period a year ago, according to Abef.
