Russia's grain harvest for 2006 at 83.94 tonnes

Russia finished its 2006 grain harvest by Tuesday, with 83.84 million tonnes in bulk weight gathered, of which 47.3 million tonnes was wheat, the Agriculture Ministry reported Friday (Nov 10).

On the same date last year harvest was reported at 83.78 million tonnes.

The wheat harvest this year was nearly 3.5 million tonnes or 8 percent less than last year.

The corn harvest increased 19.1 percent to 3.05 million tonnes from 2.56 million tonnes last year.

The loss of grain during cleaning and drying is expected at about 9 percent, so that this year's harvest in clean weight is likely to be in the region of 76 million tonnes, compared with 78.2 million tonnes last year.
