Canada's aquaculture industry taps China's market
Canada's participation in the 11th Fishery and Seafood Expo and Aquaculture Fair, held in Qindao, China from November 1 to 3, 2006 demonstrated its unwavering effort to tap China's vast aquaculture market.
What sets this exhibition apart is that this year, the province of New Foundland, one of the largest fishery areas in the world, was participating. Aquaculture organisations representative of the whole aquaculture industry in New Foundland also took part in the event, a representative from the New Foundland Aquaculture Society said.
Gaining access to markets, transferring of aquaculture technology and searching for partners in the aqua-processing industry in China has become one of the primary goals of the society, the representative said.
With a population of more than 1 billion people, China's vast market holds a treasure trove of opportunities, Jean Charest, Quebec premier of Canada said.
China's rapidly expanding economy is a phenomenon that New Foundland cannot afford to ignore, Charest said, adding that the province hopes to establish trade links while gaining more publicity and new markets for its products and services.
