Brazil's 2012-13 grain crop reaches 180 million tonnes
Brazil's 2012-13 grain production is seen reaching 176.82-181.55 million tonnes.
According to the second forecast published by the Agriculture Ministry and the Brazilian Commodities Corporation (Conab) on Thursday (Nov 8) the projection is 6.4-9.3% higher than the last crop, which reached 166.17 million tonnes.
Biggest growth will be in soy output, of between 13.71 million and 16.61 million tonnes compared to the previous crop. Meanwhile, sweet corn is seen growing by 216,600 and 1.52 million tonnes, while the forecast for the bean crop is of between a 1,400 tonne drop and a 49,300 tonne rise. The latter is due to high bean prices caused by crop failure in the main export countries.
The forecast for planted area is of an increase between 50.89 million and 52.22 million hectares - the projection varies between stability and a 2.6% increase against the 2011-12 crop.
