Russia tightens control over meat supply from foreign firms

A stricter control over meat products supplied by three foreign companies has been introduced by Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight.

The service introduced the precautionary measures in the aftermath of the detection of mesophilic aerobiotic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms in a beef lot delivered by Moldova's Mistor-bras and in a pork lot supplied by Germany's Danish Crown Fleisch GmbH.

The service also found salmonella in the pork delivered by Ireland's Queally Pig Slaughtering Ltd T/a Dawn Pork & Bacona and listeria in the shrimp lot from Canada's Mersey Phoenix.

The watchdog extended the period of enhanced regulation of Danish Crown Fleisch GmbH by three months as a safety precaution.
