Bangladesh to resume freshwater shrimp exports to EU in December

Bangladesh will resume its freshwater shrimp exports to the EU on December 7, as the country is prepared to comply with international food safety measures.

The decision was made by the department of fisheries following remarkable progress in maintaining shrimp quality standard.

The fisheries and livestock minister was pleased over significant development on implementation of measures for maintaining global standard of frozen shrimps.

In April, Bangladesh imposed voluntary ban on shrimp exports for six months after EU member state Belgium sent back around 54 shrimp consignments in January-March period due to antibiotic contamination.
