Cargill to vaccinate pigs against AH1N1
Cargill has announced plans to vaccinate its entire herd of 120,000 pigs against the AH1N1 virus, according to company spokesman Mark Klein.
Cargill is the eighth-largest hog producer in the US.
One of the vaccine producers has a conditional license and may be able to ship as early as November, said Klein.
He said Cargill hopes to be able to perform its routine semi-annual vaccination programme for its sow herds in December.
Once the sows are vaccinated, they will pass on AH1N1 immunity to their offspring.
