EU is top buyer for Vietnam's Jan- September seafood exports
The European Union has emerged as the biggest importer of Vietnamese seafood in the first nine months of 2007, accounting for 24.4 percent of the total market share or worth US$66.024 million, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Vietnam exported 661,023 tonnes of seafood worth US$2.709 billion from January to September, representing on-year rises of 13 percent in volume and 13.8 percent in value.
EU is the leading buyer of pangasius catfish from Vietnam with purchases amounting to US$348.104 million, accounting for 50 percent of Vietnam's total.
Among the Vietnamese exporters, Navico exported US$52.304 million, followed by Hung Vuong Corp and Agifish.
The bloc imported US$39.038 million of Vietnamese tuna, up 58 percent over the same period. Havuco posted the biggest volume of tuna exports at US$12.2 million.
EU imported US$110.958 million worth shrimp from Vietnam, ranking third behind Japan and US. In first nine months, shrimp exports to this market dropped 7 percent in volume and 2 percent in value. Quoc Viet Company reached the highest export value, followed by Cuu Long Seapro and Kim Anh Co., Ltd.
