Japan Food Dept Buys 90,000 MT Wheat, 20,000 MT Barley

 

The Staple Food Department at Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has contracted to buy in a tender 90,000 metric tons of wheat and 20,000 tons of barley for January shipment, according to a department official on Thursday.

 

Of the wheat, 65,000 tons are of US origin, with 20,000 tons western white wheat, 8,000 tons high-protein wheat and 37,000 tons dark northern spring wheat.

 

The remainder of the wheat consists of 25,000 tons of Australian standard wheat.

 

Of the barley, the department bought 9,000 tons of beer-use barley and 11,000 tons of feed barley from Australia.
