India to produce 82 million tonnes of wheat this year

India will produce over 82 million tonnes of wheat this year as late September rains helped soil retain moisture content, according to official research body IARI. 

This grain season will be able to meet the government's target of raising production by two million tonnes of wheat from last year's 80.58 million tonnes, said IARI.

The production target was raised to partly offset the expected decline of over 15 million tonnes in rice output due to drought and subsequent floods.
