Brazilian hog exports up 34.4 percent in October

 

 

Exports of hog meat of Brazil increased by 34.3 percent in October 2009 to 63,000 tonnes as compared to same period of 2008 but reported a decrease of 9.6 percent in terms of value, said Brazil's Pork Industry Association (ABIPECS).

 

Between January and October 2009, Brazil exported 511,700 tonnes, a rise of 8.6 percent as compared to same period of 2008, or US$1.02 billion, a decrease of 23.2 percent.

 

ABIPECS said prices decreased by 30 percent as compared to 2008. According to the entity, Brazil will export 600,000 tonnes of hog meat during 2009.

 

Russia is the main market for the Brazilian hog meat with 228,500 tonnes, an increase of 12.2 percent.
