JSR Genetics, the UK's leading pig genetic specialists, has signed on Agro Expert of Cluj Napoca, Romania, to distribute JSR's superior genetics to pig producers throughout the country.

This new deal marks another major milestone for JSR's ongoing global expansion and follows significant agreements in Canada, Portugal, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Russia.

The Romanian pig industry has seen a sharp decline in pork self-sufficiency, dropping from 84 percent in 2003 to 61 percent in 2009, causing imports to nearly double in the past five years, said Paul Anderson, JSR's European Sales Director.

Romania's infrastructure is generally good but there are significant variations in performance throughout the country. By combining JSR's genetics and technical support with Agro Expert's extensive contacts within the agricultural sector and local knowledge, JSR can help lift the productivity of the industry and the profitability of individual pig producers, said Anderson.
