Good weather leads to significant harvesting in Manitoba

Excellent weather allowed for significant harvest progress to be made in Manitoba in the week ended Monday (November 9), the provincial government's Agriculture and Rural Development Department said.

Producers are prioritizing fields for harvest depending on crop type and moisture content, the department said in a crop update.

The soy harvest is continuing and with the improved weather, moisture content has dropped below 20 percent.

In the eastern region, soy harvest is from 65 percent to 100 percent complete, with the most progress made in the southern districts. Yields ranged from 20 to over 35 bushels/acre, with an average of 30 bu/acre. Some producers were concerned about quality, the department said.

In the central region, soy and edible beans harvest continues.

The sunflower harvest in the province was progressing, with variable yields and quality being reported. Quality issues include scuffing, thin seeds and low test weights. High moisture content was also reported, the department said.

The grain corn harvest was just starting across the eastern and central regions. Fields to be harvested still have high moisture content. Crop insurance adjusters were inspecting fields where producers have submitted mould-related claims.

The harvesting of other crops such as flax, canola and cereals continues, the department said.
