UK livestock sector expands presence in Asia
A British farming group is expanding the presence of the UK livestock industry in Asia, with agreements signed for Cambodia and Malaysia.
EBLEX and BPEX will create a US$27 million joint venture with a Cambodian conglomerate. The joint venture will produce beef and dairy products, as well as milk and goat milk. This single farm will include a slaughterhouse and a dairy unit.
This follows a successful joint venture to create a Cambodian pork sector that is already reaching its production targets.
A third agreement to import US$1 million worth of bovine semen from the UK has also been signed.
In a separate development, an important agreement has been signed this week in Malaysia for the supply of cattle semen and embryos. This major deal is worth GBP10 million (US$16.6 million) over five years.
