China's Tonliao cattle makes its debut in the Middle East
Tongliao Wufeng Export (Inner Mongolia) Co. Ltd has concluded a deal to deliver 2,200 head of "Tongliao cattle", valued at US$1 million to Saudi Arabia, marking the first time China's Tongliao cattle was exported to the Middle East.
The Simmenthal crossbreed is currently exported to Hong Kong and Macau.
Tongliao cattle, a breed found in China's Inner Mongolia city of Tongliao, is the result of years of cross breeding and research. Its high quality meat gives the breed a favourable reputation in the market.
To date, 11 cattle companies in the city of Tongliao have been registered to export Tongliao cattle to Hong Kong and Macau with breeding standards and conditions monitored by the Tongliao Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
Each year, the cattle companies collectively markets more than 50,000 head of cattle and exports 10,000 head to Hong Kong and Macau. One in five cattle exported to Macau and Hong Kong from China is Tongliao cattle.
