Spain hits new record high in GM corn cultivation
Spain planted 111,306 hectares of genetically modified (GM) corn this year, representing 30% of the total corn grown in the country.
According to a statement by biotechnology promotional group Fundacion Antama, citing data from a report due to be published in the Spanish Journal of Agricultural Research, the area sown with GM corn resistant to the corn borer resulted in a mean additional gross margin of EUR95 (US$121) per hectare for the farmer.
