Mindanao to supply pork to typhoon-ravaged Luzon
Â
Â
The Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA) said plans are being firmed up with suppliers from Mindanao to transport pork to Luzon in time for the yuletide.
Â
According to the DA, the private sector is being encouraged to bring in pork from Mindanao and to source up from 15,000-20,000 tonnes of the commodity from foreign markets to fill in an expected supply gap in typhoon-ravaged Luzon.
Â
There is a traditional spike in demand for pork and other meat products during the Christmas season.
Â
DA assistant secretary Salvador Salacup said some of the pork supply will come from the cities of General Santos, Davao, Cagayan de Oro and Zamboanga which will already be packaged in boxes to cut the cost of transporting the commodity from Mindanao to distributors in Metro Manila.
