Norwegian seafood export soars
Norwegian seafood export has amounted to US$760 million, the highest value registered in one month, according to the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC).
This year to date, the increase has been US$228 million compared with the same period last year. Norwegian salmon still ranks first in the exported products, with an export value of US$285 million in October. Exports of Norwegian salmon totaled US$2.6 billion, an increase of US$84 million.
Herring exports totaled US$102 million in October, an increase of US$55 million ( a 118-percent increase) from October last year. Mackerel exports totaled US$107 million, a decline of US$10 million or 9 percent.
Russia has been one of the major customers for these products, with a 100 percent increase in the import of herring, Norwegian salmon, mackerel and Norwegian fjord trout.
Norway's exports to EU have fallen by US$19 million due to reduced exports to Denmark, UK, and Portugal.
