British pig group designs breeding pig calculator

The British Pig Executive (BPEX) announced the new Breeding Herd Calculator which pig producers could use to avoid adverse results in changing some factors within a pig unit.

The Breeding Herd Calculator will further complement the Feeding Herd Calculator as it will compute effects on changes in sow productivity, feed and other costs on the net margin per weaner sold.

Dr. Gill, BPEX Pig Technical Manager, said that the tool is useful in times when feed costs are high and producers need to estimate reduction in losses through lower costs and improved sow productivity.

BPEX, comprised by leading individuals across the British pig industry, announced that the tool will find the best solution while factoring market conditions.
