Mountaire Farms to build US$34.5 million processing facility
Mountaire Farms, a Millsboro-based poultry processing company, is planning to build a US$34.5 million plant in Delaware to convert waste into products for the poultry and pet food industries.
Officials from Mountaire Farms said the new resource recovery plant will recycle feathers, carcasses, and other processing leftovers. They said the plant will create 31 new jobs by December 2011.
The company received an industrial expansion permit to build in the protected Coastal Zone on Wednesday. In exchange, it will convert boilers from oil to natural gas, install odor controls, and make wastewater treatment plant upgrades to cut pollution releases.
The Delaware Economic Development Office has provided a US$787,500 grant from the Delaware Strategic Fund for the project.
