Brazil 2007/08 soy crop 37 percent planted

Brazil's 2007/08 soy crop is 37 percent planted as of November 6, agribusiness consultancy, AgRural, said Wednesday (November 7).

AgRural estimates that Brazil will plant 22.5 million hectares of soy in the 2007/08 soy season. Brazil starts planting soy in October and harvests around March.

The advance of the planting period is due to steady rains in the centre-west and elsewhere. Current planting is now on par with this time last year. The crop got off to a slow start in October due to dry weather in Mato Grosso.

Mato Grosso, the No. 1 soy producing state, has 62 percent of its estimated 5.7 million hectares planted.

No. 2 Parana has 55 percent of its estimated 4.4 million hectares planted and No. 3 Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil's southern most state, has 10 percent of its estimated 4.2 million hectares planted as of November 6.

AgRural put Brazil's 2007/08 soy crop at 62.7 million tonnes.

Brazil is the No. 2 soy producer and exporter behind the US.
