European Commission inspects Bangladeshi shrimp plants
A European Commission (EC) team of four has recently visited Bangladesh, to inspect the overall standard of the country's export-oriented shrimp plants.
Reports said the EC team would visit laboratories run by the Department of Fisheries, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and Bangladesh Council for Science and Industrial Research. The aim was to observe various tests on quality control measures for shrimp and fish exports.
During the EC team's 10-day tour of Bangladesh, they would visit some EU approved shrimp processing plants, shrimp farming areas, depots, landing centers, trawlers and other facilities in different parts of the Chittagong and Khulna regions.
In addition, they would meet government officials, EC representatives in Bangladesh and Bangladesh Frozen Food Exporters Association leaders, to discuss the shrimp sector's compliance with EC directives.
