Egypt and Qatar investors in joint venture for poultry project

A joint venture between Egyptian and Qatari investors will see the establishment of a poultry project based in Egypt.

The Poultry Wealth Division (PWD) of General Union of the Egyptian Commerce Chambers, is preparing a project for Qatari investors.

The Egyptian side indicated that talks are going with the Qatari side on the proposal.

Dr Abulaziz al-Sayid, chairman of PWD, said that the project would boost the poultry sector in the Arab region. "The project encompasses all aspects of poultry sector, in addition to fodder factories."

He added that the project would preliminarily provide 10 million chickens a year and more than 1,000 jobs would be created.

He hoped that the co-operation with the Qatari side in this respect would initiate an "Arab union" for the sector that would include GCC countries, Egypt and Sudan, aiming at achieving self-sufficiency in chicken products in the Arab region.

Dr Al-Sayed indicated that the project would be based in Egypt.
