Argentina's wheat sales up 54.2 percent on-year in August

 

 

Argentina's year-on-year wheat exports rose 54.2 percent in August, the latest Agriculture Secretariat data show.

 

Argentina exported 783,558 tonnes of wheat in August, compared with 508,231 tonnes shipped during the same month a year ago, according to the Secretariat.

 

Sales rose as Argentina shipped more wheat to Brazil, its leading wheat importer.

 

Brazil imported 606,449 tonnes compared with 378,109 tonnes a year ago.

 

Argentina produced 12.5 million tonnes of wheat in 2005/06, compared with 16 million tonnes a year earlier, according to the Agriculture Secretariat.

 

 

Corn

 

Argentina exported 1,139,489 tonnes of corn in August, down 4.8 percent from 1,197,132 tonnes during the same period a year earlier.

 

Malaysia was the leading importer, buying 322,421 tonnes compared with 228,898 tonnes a year earlier.

 

Corn production in 2005/06 totalled 14.5 million tonnes compared with 20.5 million tonnes the previous season, according to the Agriculture Secretariat.
