Slovenia enforces safety measures over new BSE case

Slovenian veterinary authorities enforced safety measures following the confirmation of a new case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or mad-cow-disease in a cow from the former Yugoslav country, said an official.

The farm where the cow was born has been closed, while veterinary experts were establishing the cow's family ties, reported Vida Cadonic Spelic, general director of the Slovenian Veterinary Administration to Slovene Press Agency.

The official lab test of the BSE results are not expected until next week.

The farm was located in Dravsko polje, near Slovenia's second largest city of Maribor.
