Indonesian soy output seen to surge this year
Indonesia's production of soy is forecast to surge 24.5 percent to 966.470 tonnes in dry grains this year compared with last year on larger harvest area.
Harvest areas are estimated to reach 137,240 hectares up 23.22 percent from last year, the central Statistics Agency said.
Despite an increase in production, the country still depends much on imports for soy, an official of the agriculture ministry said.
Food Crop Director General Sutarto Alimoeso said next year the country still needs to import 40 percent of the country's soy requirement.
