Vietnam's Mekong Delta shrimp farmers seen to gain profit in 2009
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) said more than 80 percent of shrimp growers in Mekong Delta region will gain profit in the 2009 crop thanks to high yield and prices.
According to local media, MARD said farmers in the region have harvested 280,000 tonnes of shrimp in 2009 crop.
Prices of sugpo-prawn are now between VND90,000 and VND100,000 per kg, while white-leg shrimps are selling for VND48,000 and VND50,000 per kg.
The MARD's Aquaculture Department recommended farmers grow shrimp in only one season a year and rotate with other aquatic to avoid spread of diseases and secure sustainable aquatic production.
