Informa cuts US corn, soy crop estimates from October

Private analytical firm Informa Economics on Wednesday (November 4) cut its estimates for US corn and soy production but kept the projections above the government's most recent estimates, traders said.

Informa estimated US corn production at 13.064 billion bushels, with an average yield of 164.8 bushels per acres, traders said. It put US soybean production at 3.333 billion bushels, with an average yield of 43.5 bushels per acre, they said.

Informa last month estimated the government would project a US corn crop of 13.127 billion bushels and a soy crop of 3.383 billion bushels, traders said. The firm last month projected the corn yield at 164.7 bushels per acre and the soy yield at 44 bushels per acre, they said.

The US Department of Agriculture in October projected a corn crop of 13.018 billion bushels, with a yield of 164.2 bushels per acre, and a soy crop of 3.25 billion bushels, with a yield of 42.4 bushels per acre. The USDA is slated to update its forecasts at 8:30 a.m. EST Tuesday.
