China's Shandong may export beef products to EU

Shandong province is one of the major beef production and processing regions in China. Annual production of beef and beef products presently stands at 800,000 tonnes.

Production capacity has been improving in the past few years with the importation of advance technologies. Scientific breeding methods had also enhanced the performance of Shandong's beef cattle.

Market participants said that authorities in Shandong were in discussion with a few European companies on the possibility of shipping beef products to EU countries. One European company is reportedly preparing to process beef in Shandong for sale in EU member countries.

Presently, Brazil, Canada and Australia are the biggest exporters of beef and beef products to EU.
