China Jilin 2003 Grain Output More Than Expected, At 23M MT
Grain output in Jilin, China's top corn-producing province, is expected to be higher this year and more than expected earlier, according to a report Wednesday by the official Xinhua New
Agency.
The report quoted Hong Hu, governor of Jilin province, as saying grain production this year will hit 23 million metric tons.
Jilin produced 22.15 million tons of grain in 2002, including 15.40 million tons of corn, according to official data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
End-September grain stocks in Jilin province were estimated at 31.06 million tons, Xinhua said, quoting figures from Jilin Provincial Grain Bureau.
