India's wheat output to rise two million tonnes in 2009-10
India wheat output in the current fiscal that began April 1 will likely rise by two million tonnes due to a rise in area under cultivation, the federal farm minister said Wednesday.
The area under wheat will likely rise by 500,000 hectares this year, Sharad Pawar said at a conference.
India produced 80.58 million tonnes of wheat last year, according to the government data.
Pawar said winter-sown rice production will also likely rise by one million to 1.5 million tonnes, while oilseed output is expected to rise by 1.2 million tonnes.
