Indonesia expects corn and soy output to increase this year

Indonesia is expecting its corn and soy production in 2008 to exceed last year's due to increases in production areas and productivity, the statistics agency said on Monday (November 4, 2008).

Corn production is forecast to surge 19.36 percent to 15.86 million tonnes while soy output is projected to jump 28.47 percent to 762,000 tonnes, according to agency head Rusman Heriawan.

Last year, Indonesia produced 13.3 million tonnes of corn and 592,530 tonnes of soy, the statistics agency said.
