Ukrainian grain exports rise slightly in October

Ukraine's grain exports rose to 1.4 million tonnes in October from 1.3 million in September, Ukrainian analysts said on Tuesday (Nov 2).

The analysts said the volume included 760,700 tonnes of wheat and 240,400 tonnes of corn. "Grains were mainly shipped at the beginning of October," they said.

Ukraine's government, on October 19, had introduced an export quota of 2.7 million tonnes for corn, wheat, and barley combined for the rest of this year to head off large exports and to keep bread prices from rising.

The quotas cover two million tonnes of corn and 500,000 tonnes of wheat.

According to the government forecast, Ukraine's grain harvest is likely to fall to about 38 million tonnes this year, down from 46 million a year earlier due to a severe drought.
