Kazakhstan's gross grain crop at 13.9 million tonnes in 2010

Kazakhstan has completed its grain harvesting, gathering a total of 13.9 million tonnes of grain by bunker weight, Deputy Agriculture Minister Yevgeny Aman said on Tuesday (Nov 2).

Wheat accounted for 87% of this year's crop, Aman said. Last year's record grain crop totalled 20.8 million tonnes in clean weight, compared with 15.6 million tonnes in 2008.

Kazakhstan, the world's seventh largest wheat exporter, produces far more wheat than it consumes. Annual consumption is steady at around 2.6 million tonnes.

The vast Central Asian nation estimates it will export up to 8.0 million tonnes of grain in the current marketing year, slightly below the 8.3 million tonnes sold in the last marketing year.
