Japan's Nippon Soda ceases methionine business
Press Release
Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. announced on October 30, 2009 that it will cease its methionine business effective on March 31, 2010.
Nippon Soda started its methionine business in 1969, and has expanded its capacity, enjoying a positive business growth since then.
However, due to the outbreak of bird flu and competitors' aggressive expansion, the price of methionine dropped around 2005.
In August 2006, Nippon Soda decided to cease its methionine production. After which, Nippon Soda teamed up with a company in Japan to produce methionine for them to sell.
Yet, due to the recent unstable market conditions and the competitor's continuous expansion, Nippon Soda considers the future of the methionine business as very tough.
Thus Nippon Soda announced that it will cease the business of feed additive methionine effective on March 31, 2010.
