Indonesia revises 2009 corn output up four percent; yields, acreage up

Indonesia has revised up its 2009 output forecast for corn by 4 percent, according to estimates released by the Central Statistics Bureau.

Indonesia's forecast for corn this year now stands at 17.7 million tonnes, up from an earlier forecast of 17.0 million tonnes, said Rusman Heriawan, head of the bureau.

Last year, the country produced 16.3 million tonnes of corn.

The forecast was raised due to a 4.8 percent increase in acreage on year, resulting in an additional 192,000 hectares of corn fields, and increasing yields, said Heriawan.
