Manitoba grain harvest is moving slowly
Harvest activities in Manitoba continued to progress at a slow pace in the week ended Monday (November 2) due to continuing wet conditions, the provincial government's Agriculture and Rural Development Department said.
In the central region of Manitoba, good progress was made with the soy harvest in the eastern areas.
In the eastern region, the soy harvest ranges from mostly complete in southern districts to 45 percent complete in central and northern districts. Most of the soy that remain unharvested was the late seeded fields.
Yields for many soy fields have been in the range of 25 to 35 bushels per acre. The majority of the soy is testing 20 percent moisture or higher, the department said.
Some edible beans have been harvested in the central region and were being dried to safe levels for storage.
No grain corn has been harvested, with producers concerned with mould development and high kernel moisture, the department said.
Soil testing, fall fertilizer application and field cultivation continue where conditions allow.
Available bin space and ability to dry or aerate high moisture crops were concerns for many producers.
