Ukraine's 2010 grain harvest nearly complete

Ukrainian farms have almost completed the 2010 grain harvest after threshing 39.9 million tonnes of grain bunker weight from 98% of the sown area, a local agriculture news agency said Monday (Nov 1).

APK-Inform quoted data from regions that the grain yield averaged 2.78 tonnes per hectare in 2010, compared with three tonnes a year earlier.

The government has said Ukraine is likely to harvest about 38 million tonnes of grain in clean weight this year, compared with 46 million in 2009. Clean weight harvest is traditionally 5%-7% less than bunker weight.
