China urged to expand meat exports to Russia
Livestock-producing provinces in China should invest more in brand building and ensuring quality to expand its share in the Russian market, according to Li CuiXia, a researcher from the Northeast Agricultural University.
Li was speaking at a China-Russia technical-exchange conference held recently.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, Heilongjiang has been the top province in China exporting animal products to Russia. These products include live cattle, fresh and chilled beef and mutton, eggs, feathers and leather. Most are raw products which have little value-added. As pork demand soars in Russia, China's pork exports to the country has also increased. Pork once made up 90 percent of meat exports from China to Russia.
