Events in the next 3 months
In five days, the 2nd International Congress of Macrobrachium starts in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. This event is being held in an effort to improve the knowledge of the biology and taxonomy, ecological aspects, genetics, aquaculture and fisheries of the freshwater prawns of genus Macrobrachium.
We've picked eight other events that are slated in November, including the 2nd International Ornamental Fish Trade and Technical Conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on February 8 – 10, 2017. World trade in ornamental fish has become a billion-dollar industry, with total wholesale and retail values estimated at US$1 billion and $3 billion, respectively.
2nd International Congress of Macrobrachium

The International Congress of Macrobrachium is organised for the second time by several educational and research institutions of Mexico (CIC-UdeG, CIIDIR-IPN, CIBNOR, UJAT and UNAM-FESI) in an effort to improve the knowledge of the biology and taxonomy, ecological aspects, genetics, aquaculture and fisheries of the freshwater prawns of genus Macrobrachium.
This event will gather researchers, students and producers who work with this group of organisms. The congress covers several aspects of the Macrobrachium and features lectures, oral and poster presentations, special sessions and competitions.
2nd Taiwan Fisheries and Seafood Show
November 9 – 11, 2016
The Taiwan International Fisheries and Seafood Show 2016, to be held at the Kaohsiung Exhibition Hall, expects to attract 250 local and international exhibitors on more than 500 booths. It also expects to draw some 7,000 professional visitors.
The expo will feature sections for fishing gear and technology, fish farming, processed seafood products, fishery services and, for the first time, fisheries biotechnology. The TAITRA hopes to create a more competitive platform for the exhibitors.
Taiwan's fishery industry and its production value have played a vital part on the international market, and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, which co-hosts the show with My Exhibition, hopes to create a more competitive platform for the exhibitors.
2nd International Congress on Applied Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment

This international congress tackles the latest developments, new methods and technologies, trends and research activities in Greece and abroad. It will give opportunities for exchanges of opinions and knowledge.
The congress, HydroMediT 2016 for short, will focus on research and innovation technology applied mainly in the Mediterranean and its adjacent waters, but interesting solutions from other parts of the world will also be accepted. The main theme of the Congress will be: "Global Trends and Innovations for the Sustainable Development of Aquaculture & Fisheries in Our Region".
General fields of interest will be aquaculture, fisheries, processing of aquatic products, economics and marketing of fisheries products, environmental management, and inland aquatic resources.
5th Aquaponics Association Conference: Going Mainstream

With the theme "Going Mainstream", the 2016 Aquaponics Association Conference will focus on how aquaponics can evolve to become a more well-accepted form of growing food. It will be held in Austin, Texas, a location well known for innovation and adopting new ideas. The Texas climate is arid and relatively warm year-round, making it an ideal location for considering aquaponics for food production, as seen by the successful aquaponic farms located in the region.
Topics will include marketing the ecological benefits of aquaponics, putting together a solid business case for aquaponics' unique blend of aquaculture and soil-less farming, aquaponics education, and aquaponics-focused audits and HACCP (hazard analysis and critical control points) plans, among others.

FENACAM'16 - Brazilian Farmed Shrimp Fair

FENACAM'16, which is on its 13th edition, will incorporate four events: XIII International Symposium on Shrimp Farming; X International Symposium on Aquaculture; XIII International Fair of Services and Products for Aquaculture and XIII Gastronomic Festival of the Seafood.
These events are aimed at meeting the expectations and interests of the entire production chain of marine shrimp farming and Brazilian aquaculture. They will also facilitate interactions among shrimp farmers, fish farmers, speakers, panelists, congressmen, service exhibitors and other stakeholders in the production chain of aquaculture/marine shrimp farming.
Oral and poster presentations will take into account the demands and needs of fish/shrimp farmers and participants, such as updates and advances in aquaculture and shrimp farming in different regions of Brazil and major Latin American countries and Asia.
The International Fair of Services and Products for Aquaculture, taking place parallel to the other events of FENACAM'16, will have about 300 booths representing the most modern in the Brazilian and global aquaculture industry and offering a great opportunity to update and exchange information among producers, manufacturers, academia, government, industry and the general public.
One of the main attractions and highlights of FENACAM'16 will be the XIII Gastronomic Festival of Seafood, an event that has become an important factor for the promotion of aquaculture products.
4th International Conference on Fisheries and Aquaculture

The 4th International Conference on Fisheries and Aquaculture, or Fisheries 2016, for short, will lay a platform for the interaction between experts around the world. It aims to signify scientific discoveries, ideas and major milestones in the field of aquaculture technology and fisheries science.
This conference has for its theme "Blue Revolution". It will include oral talks, workshop, symposium, poster presentations and exhibitions. World-renowned speakers, the most recent techniques, developments, and the newest updates in aquaculture and fisheries are the hallmarks of this conference.

LACQUA 2016, which will take place at the Sheraton Convention Centre in Lima, Peru, from November 28 to December 1 will be the 2016 annual meeting of the Latin American & Caribbean Chapter of World Aquaculture Society.
Following upon the previous successful LACQUA meetings, LACQUA16 will bring international attention to the aquaculture industry of Peru and South America. The WAS regional meeting—South American Regional Aquaculture 2016—will be co-held with LACQUA 2016.
There will be an exhibition by aquaculture suppliers from around the world of the latest in equipment, supplies and services.
Sessions and workshops at LACQUA '16 will cover all aspects of aquaculture in Peru and South America, as well as the rest of the world, such as fish culture, crustacean culture, seaweeds, production systems, sustainable aquaculture, health and diseases, physiology and genetics, nutrition and feeding, and processing and economics.
There will be a special Farmers Day with presentations on topics especially of interest to aquaculture farmers. There will also be industry sessions throughout the conference with speakers addressing industry concerns.

2nd International Ornamental Fish Trade and Technical Conference
February 8 – 10, 2017
Colombo, Sri Lanka
The 2nd International Ornamental Fish Trade and Technical Conference will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, currently the sixth-largest supplier of ornamental fish to the global market, on February 8-10, 2017. The event's venue is the 5-star Kingsbury hotel, which is 35 minutes from the Bandaranayake International Airport.
Organised by Infofish, one of the FISHINFONetwork members, the event will comprise a two-day conference and one-day field trip to ornamental fish farms in the country. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss issues facing the global ornamental fish industry, including ways to increase production through capture and culture fisheries; introduction and breeding of exotic species; and health management and biosecurity measures.
The major pillar underpinning these discussions will be sustainability, in recognition of its importance in the management of stocks, and impact on the environment and social development. The conference will also highlight the latest developments in packaging and transportation, and changes in international market and trade patterns.
World trade in ornamental fish has become a billion-dollar industry, with total wholesale and retail values estimated at US$1 billion and $3 billion, respectively. Some 55% of the global market supplies originate from Asia, where the sector contributes significantly to the national economies of the countries involved.
