Vietnamese seafood exports for 2010 surpasses US$3.5 billion
 

Vietnam has exported nearly 700,000 tonnes of seafood to 152 markets globally in the first nine months of 2010, worth US$3.5 billion, up 10.9% in volume and 15.4% in value over the same period last year.
 
According to statistics from Vietnam Customs, in September 2010 alone, the nation exported more than 126 thousand tonnes of seafood, with the value at US$500 million, rising respectively 4.4% and 18.5% in volume and value year-to-year.
 
Shrimp export still accounted for the largest share (40.7%) in total Vietnamese seafood exports at 167,000 tonnes, valued at US$1.42 billion, up 14.2% in volume and up 22.1% in value, respectively, against the same period last year.
 
Pangasius took up 29 % with 475,000 tonnes, worth more than US$1 billion, up 6.4% in volume and 2.1% in value year-to-year. Mollusk was ranked third at over 88,000 tonnes, valued at US$339 million, down 2.9% in volume and 6% in value over the same period last year.
 
Tuna exports achieved 62,000 tonnes with a value of US$221 million, a 55% increase of value and 70% rise in value year-to-year.
 

The US is the single market which ranked first in seafood import turnover from Vietnam in the first nine months of 2010 with a value of US$667 million, an increase of 37% over the same period last year. The US imported over 108,000 tonnes of seafood in the nine months and accounted for 19% of the Vietnamese export turnover.
