Company to introduce European livestock management software to the US

Lawson Software has expanded its partnership with Norwegian IT specialist Mercatus to market software systems that manage livestock and fish.

The new system is planned for launch in the US, South American and Pacific rim.

The partnership, which is well established in Europe, will introduce a new management solution based on Lawson's M3 Food and Beverage software - M3 stands for "make, move, and manufacture, developed specifically for the farming and production stages in the beef, pork, poultry, and fish industries.

Livestock producers are seeing a tremendous amount of pressure in the marketplace, from pricing pressures to the need for more globalisation, said Rob Wiersma, industry strategy director for Lawson.

Thus, there is a need for powerful software solutions that will give them visibility and control across their entire value chain to allow them to compete in the market, he added.

Marine Harvest, the world's top farmed salmon company, is using the software to match inventory to customer orders, monitor demand and track quality and production problems.

Lawson is a enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions provider with sales of US$750 million last year.
