Vietnam's Quang Ngai province give US$43 million boost to seafood
Quang Ngai province in South-Central Vietnam approved spending of VND687 billion (US$42.93 million) to implement a comprehensive agriculture development programme from 2006-10.
The province has a booming aquaculture industry especially in shrimp. In 2002, the province had 650 hectares of land devoted to shrimp farming, this is expected to rise to 2,290 hectares by 2010.
The programme aims to spur the growth rate of Quang Ngai's aquacultural products 6 to 7 per cent to achieve a seafood export value of US$8 million.
Fisheries and breeding ponds are expected to make up 65 percent and 35 per cent respectively in the province's production structure.
Local authorities have been coordinating with the government's policy to improve infrastructure in the area.
