Uruguay official on South-East Asia visit to promote country's beef

The President of Uruguay's meat promotion organisation, INAC, Alfredo Fratti, will make official visits to Vietnam and Singapore in November to promote the country's beef.

The INAC chief said that Vietnam was an interesting prospect for Uruguay's meat exports as it is a growing country. while Singapore may be the port of entry of meat destined for the Asian countries.

Mr Fratti will be travelling with the Vice President, Danilo Astori.

He said that Uruguay decided to open an embassy in Vietnam earlier this year, which was appropriate because, the country is similar to China in terms of growth.

He said that the growth in the country means that beef consumption is expected to increase.

He said: "We have to say who we are, what we produce and what the possibilities are. From our point of view, we have to negotiate in the country."

"We could be exporting to that country if we get a contact who is interested."

He said that Singapore is a possible entry port for Uruguayan beef to Asian countries.
