Market analysis

Except for Global Bio-Chem, other lysine producers nudged prices down in the wake of soft demand and falling production costs helped by weaker corn prices.

In Europe, tightening supplies pushed up prices for late Q4 orders to EUR1.96-1.98/kg, while quotes for 2012 Q1 deliveries were little changed at EUR1.92-1.94/kg amid limited trade.

Ajinomoto's lysine production plant in Thailand was forced to shut down due to massive flooding, but this should have limited impact on China as the affected plant is not a major lysine supplier to China.

Market forecast

Lysine market will likely stand still while awaiting the release of producers' new price quotes in the weeks ahead.  High profit margins at home had prompted continued capacity expansion among the likes of Meihua Group, Chengfu Group and Global Bio-Chem, which may depress lysine prices over the longer term.
